There are many structures that will help us express what software can do in English

The simple present tense is probably the easiest of all:

  • The software automates data entry.
  • This program generates reports in real-time.

We can use a variety of modal verbs to do so:

  • The software can optimize workflow.
  • This software will debug code for you.
  • This firewall could protect your site from DDoS attacks.
  • GitHub Copilot might save you time.

We can also use the passive voice to explain what software does

  • Mozilla Containers are created to enhance privacy.
  • This application is built to track expenses.
  • Docker is used to deploy applications.

In addition to those, we can use verbs as, “helps”, “allow” and “enable”

  • This software allows users to edit images.
  • Excel enables users to create and manage spreadsheets.
  • Slack helps teams communicate more effectively.
