Published on September 30, 2024 | Updated on October 2, 2024

During this lesson, you will learn about the differences between the present continuous and the present simple.

Think of the present simple as something we do every day or something that is always true. It’s like a routine or a fact.

  • I brush my teeth every morning.
  • The sun rises in the east.
  • She loves ice cream.

Expression of time used with the simple present: Always, Usually, Often, Sometimes, Rarely, Never, Every day, Every Week, On Mondays, in the morning, in the afternoon, at 7

Now, the present continuous is for something that is happening right now, at this very moment.

  • I am brushing my teeth right now.
  • It is raining outside.
  • They are playing soccer in the park.

Expressions of time used with the present continuous: Now, Right now, At the moment, Today, This week, this month, Currently, This morning, Right away, These days
